About the Assessor

Heather Mitchell has been working for Gun Plain Township since October of 2021. She graduated from Western Michigan University in 2004 with a Bachelors in Accountancy. During her college years, she worked for various townships learning how local government worked, from taxes to elections to assessing. Her time with each of those Townships has proven to be invaluable.

She currently holds certificates as a Michigan Advanced Assessing Officer, Certified Personal Property Examiner, Zoning Administrator, and Election Chairperson/Inspector. She is also the named VP for Appraisals Plus Group, which contracts with multiple jurisdictions across Allegan, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren Counties.

Her current Townships are Allegan, Cheshire, Gun Plain Charter, Salem, Trowbridge, and Wayland, all of which are within Allegan County.

She lives in the City of Otsego with her husband, kids, and two dogs.
